A letter to myself, just in case I forget…
Dear me,
It’s a brand new year, and you’re ready to accomplish many goals your second year of college. Last year, I admit..you slacked off more than you should have, and pushed way too many things to the side. With a more experienced and mature mind this year, I know you’re ready to make things happen.
As I’m typing this I am sitting in my school’s fitness center waiting for my rock climbing class to begin (in 56 minutes..ugh). Last year, your goal was to become skinny. This year, I don’t want you to want to be skinny, my whole mindset has been changed. I’m not sure as to why, but I just want you to be happier. I don’t want you to constantly worry about your body image, but to embrace the body you have. Anyways, this year my goal for you is to get into shape. I want you to be healthy not hungry and emaciated. Instead of focusing your mind on losing those couple of pounds, I want you to focus on running that extra mile, lifting those ten extra pound of weights, or to learn how to eat five healthy meals a day. Forget skipping meals, forget pushing yourself to the extremes. It’s going to be all about taking the steps you are wanting to take in the pace you are most comfortable at.
I also want you to get great grades. No more staying online and skyping, no more facebook, and no more of your skipping homework assignments and classes. In order for you to be where I want you to be in life you have to study and work your ass off. If that means doing hours of studying and homework per night, then so be it. If that means not having as much free time as you would like, who cares? College isn’t a free ride to a better career, you have to work for it.
Now…about getting a better job. Sure your job now sucks. Not having a weekend to relax and calm down takes a lot out of you. But wake up and smell the espresso beans! Just wanting and wishing for a new job will do you no good. Get off your bed, step outside, and search for that job! If that means looking everyday for months, that’s okay. At least you’ll be one step closer to finding something that works better with your schedule.
Here’s a little equation for you:
Working more= Earning money
More money= Saving up and moving out
Moving out= More freedom
More freedom= Learning to be a true adultIt’s a lot of work, but I know you can do it. Don’t give up, work hard, and search search search!
Sincerely, yourself
