I’m nowhere near expert mode in the cosplaying world, in fact I’m one of the biggest n00bs around. Although I’m new to this magical world of cosplay, I do know what I’m looking for when it comes to a costume.
I can’t sew, the only artistic ability I have is to play music and to draw. This will not help me in creating an outfit, so my only option is to do as much research as I can online. The first big DUH, you need to look for is a RELIABLE site. The last thing you want to do is invest your money in a costume, purchase it online, and then find out you were scammed (or spent tons of money on a costume not even worth a penny).
Step 1: Do your research. There are plenty of online forums you can go to that will offer you lots of advice and websites. With all of these cosplay veterans floating around online, you are bound to find information on what you need to look for in the quality of whatever you are searching for.
Step 2: Once you are done browsing the interwebz and you have found a few websites that you have found reliable, DO NOT. I repeat DO NOT, settle for the first thing that you found. I mean sure, that would be the easy way out, but with your luck you probably forked over $20 or $30 extra that you didn’t need to spend.
I recently bought a cosplay wig for my future cosplay costume. It cost me around $32 (including express shipping). It feels and looks like real hair, you can use heat on it, and you can dye it. I believe the shipping was free, so minus the express shipping my wig was around $22-$25. Not too shabby for a decent wig. Just looking on Amazon I couldn’t find a heat protected wig that you could dye for under $30 or $40 not to mention shipping. http://cosplayanimewigs.com/
As for costumes, I haven’t gotten far. I’m still debating on which website to order my cosplay from. I’m leaning towards http://www.milanoo.com/Game-Cosplay-Costumes-c2188 simply because it has user reviews, and the prices are pretty decent. What’s also great about this site is for around $20 they can customize the costume for you, as well as get your exact measurements for a more fitted costume. Another more “affordable” cosplay should that I have stumbld upon is http://www.procosplay.com/default.aspx.
