  • Is Technology Ruining Us?

    Addiction

I’ve been thinking a lot lately, and I’ve come to the conclusion that technology completely sucks. Don’t get me wrong, there are A LOT of benefits to it. We have improved so much over the years, that I find myself being caught off guard everyday with the new things that are out there. But when it comes to society, I think that people have become so reliant and clingy to their gadgets that our skills and independence are being downgraded.

Just walking around my university’s campus I find so many people glued to their phones, and honestly it’s really sad. Have we as people become so addicted to technology that we can’t go even a few minutes without checking our phones or responding to a text message? In fact, just today I was walking with my friend trying to have a simple conversation with her. Let’s just say she wasn’t listening to a single word I was saying. Can you take a guess as to why? Bingo, she was texting away on her cellphone. People who do that in my opinion are beyond rude, and it just adds to life’s unnecessary annoyances.

Technology seems to take away from the potential people have for becoming open-minded and smarter than they could be now. Aside from the obvious spelling and grammar errors people face because of the internet and etc., many people (not all) have been stripped of wanting more in life. They’re too busy worrying about updating statuses, browsing facebook, or watching hours of youtube, instead of getting out there and exploring the world.

Maybe I’m just looking too much into this, but those in my surroundings don’t seem to want to do much of anything. Just like Eliot Chang said “If your life is so great, why are you updating your status every thirty minutes?”
